GLEN ARBOR — Mayfa Jean Gracey Hilton, 90, of Glen Arbor and Port St. Lucie, Fla., passed away Friday, March 11, 2011. Mayfa was born July 10, 1920, in Detroit, to the late Clayton Henry and Winna Fern (Haines) Gracey. During the summers she went to Camp Kohahna. After the camp season ended she was asked to stay and work at the Leelanau Schools. This is where she met and fell in love with Thomas Eliot Hilton. They were eventually married on Christmas Day 1941 in Birmingham. Mayfa was a lifelong Christian Scientist. She was a charter member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Glen Arbor and a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Stuart, Fla.After retiring from over 30 years of dedicated work at the Leelanau Schools, she and Tom moved to Florida to enjoy the warmer weather. Mayfa loved golfing and dogs, especially her dog, Midge. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.Surviving Mayfa are her children, Thomas (Sally) Hilton, Richard (Carol) Hilton and James Hilton; grandchildren, J.P., Molly, Drew (fiancée, Jessica), Leah, Emerson (Ann) and Alex; one great-grandchild, Louise; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mayfa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her two brothers. Inurnment will take place at The Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit.
