Melissa Ann (Cherry) Scanlon, age 53, of Traverse City, went to heaven from Munson Medical Center, with her loved ones around her on May 15th, 2013. Melissa was on born March 4, 1960, in Traverse City, the daughter of Edward Cherry and Cynthia (Noonan) Monroe. The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff at MMC, for their compassion and for taking such great care of Melissa.
Melissa grew up in Maple City riding and caring for horses. She graduated from Glen Lake High School in 1978, where she played and taught brass band. She loved animals and had many different kinds of pets over her life. She loved to garden and looked forward to springtime every year. She was strong willed and once she made up her mind, you couldn't change it. Melissa loved to brag about her children and was over joyed when she become a grandmother in June 2011. She loved the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Melissa is survived by her husband, Michael; her four children, daughters, Rachel Werk, Nicole Werk, twin sons, Spencer and Taylor Scanlon; grandson, Evan (Werk) Ward; mother, Cynthia Monroe; father, Edward Cherry; step mother; Madeline Cherry; Mother-in-law, Donna Scanlon; sisters, Deborah Mcleish, Dawn Helms, Sharon Cherry, Linda Henry and Irma Kaminski; brothers, Steve Cherry and Dennis Cherry; a Brother-in-Law; three Sisters-In-Law; many nieces and nephews; many cousins; and her pets Gracie "The Doby", The Hound, The Puppy, The Bird and The Fat Cat.
She was preceded in death by her beloved step father, Kay Monroe, in 1998.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in August at The Church of The Living God.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in her name to the Cherryland Humane Society.
