Melvin Edwin Lear, age 74, of Williamsburg, formerly of Lansing, passed away Saturday, August 31st, 2013. Melvin was born July 4th, 1939 in Mason, Mi. He served his country in the Air Force, then continued to serve as a Firefighter for the City of Lansing for 31 years, retiring as battalion chief in 1996. He is survived by his "amazing", devoted wife of 48 years, Kathleen Anne Morrison and their children Kim Marie (Pat) Dennany of Saint Johns, MI, Chris (Jill) Lear of Shippensburg, PA, Melissa (Rob) Griffin of Lansing, MI, Jon (Heather) Lear of Lansing, MI, and special nephew, Steven (Cindy) Freemire. They have eleven grandchildren, Alex, Alby, Grace, Gabriel, Maria, SadieMarie, Isabella, Madalynne, Millie, and Jack. He is predeceased by his granddaughter Hattie Ann Lear, his sister, JoAnn Freemire, and his in-laws, John and Wilma Morrison.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday September 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City with visitation to start at 10:00AM
