On February 16, 2014, Melvin W. Pauly, age 99, joined his dear wife Barbara, for their next life together. He passed away peacefully with his family present.
Melvin was born on February 26, 1914 to Gladys and William Pauly in Lowell, Massachusetts. He spent his young life in Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Commerce High School in that city in 1931. He married Barbara in 1938 and they celebrated their 71st anniversary with their family on September 10, 2010.
Mel worked for the Lunkenheimer Company from 1945 to 1975 where he served as President and General Manager and Chairman of the Board. One of his honors was being named by the Valve Manufacturing Association as the "man-of-the-year" in 1971.
To be closer to family, Mel and Barbara moved from Cincinnati to the Brigadoon facility on Boardman Lake in Traverse City in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Barbara. He is survived by his son, Richard (Mary) Pauly of Traverse City; his daughter, Susan (Tom) Roy of Missoula, MT; grandsons, Craig Pauly of Traverse City, Graham (Jennie) Roy of Missoula, MT, Brad Pauly of Santa Cruz, CA, Carter Roy of Los Angeles, CA, step-grandchildren; Elizabeth and David Graves, of Traverse City, three great grandchildren; Lauren and Morgan Pauly of Traverse City and Finley Roy of Missoula, MT.
He always expressed his gratitude for good health, gracious friends, and an abundant life. He will be greatly missed and will be remembered by all as a caring and supportive father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
A gathering and Memorial service to celebrate Mel's wonderful life will occur at Brigadoon, Boardman Lake Glens 1456 Brigadoon Court on what would have been Mel's 100th Birthday at 1pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2014.
