Obituary

Meyers Clovis Ackerman, 88, died Friday, April 17, 2015, with family present at Munson Hospice House.

Meyers was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Harriet Agnes Ackerman, his mother, Alice Irene Walker, his father, Meyers C. Ackerman Sr., his brother, Daniel F. Kelley and Daniel's son, Patrick Kelley, his sister, Maxine C. Miller, brother-in-law, Dale Miller, son-in-law, Lawrence P. Johnson and his Aunt and Uncle, Otis and Mary Mead.

He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Ackerman (William Stebner) and Roberta A. Walker, his sister-in-law, Vivian Kelley, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Meyers was born January 23, 1927. He grew up in the small, farm town of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, where he loved spending summers and working in the fields of his Aunt Mary and Uncle Otis' nearby farm. He also lived in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.

He honorably served in the U.S. Navy (CBMU #630) Sea Bees, stationed on the island of Okinawa during WWII. To support a family, Meyers began a career in the Weighing Industry. Meyers successfully continued in this field as a salesman, sales manager and design engineer until his retirement.

In Columbus, Ohio Meyers met his life-long love, Harriet Streamer. They married December 22, 1950. They lived and raised their family in Columbus and Grand Rapids, and then continued further north to Traverse City.

Together, they enjoyed a lifetime of family gatherings and many celebrations. Rarely idle, Meyers and Harriet shared and enjoyed many hobbies and interests, and now, after a brief pause, resume that togetherness.

Meyers, sharing his love of life with many, in return is loved by many. With a kind, genuine heart,
a spirit light with laughter, an ever present smile and witty humor he cheered and comforted us all.
