Michael Andrew Bartkowiak, 69, of Traverse City, Michigan, died unexpectedly on November 18, 2025.

Born on March 1, 1956 in Bay City, Michigan, to Chester "Chet" Bartkowiak and Doris (Michalak) Bartkowiak, Mike spent his youth and young adulthood in the area. He graduated from Bay City Central in 1974, and went on to earn his associates degree in business studies at Delta College in 1976.

Married in 1982, he met the love of his life, MaryLou in 1980 while dancing at the Bay City Polka Fest, a pastime they continued to enjoy throughout their marriage. He will forever be her Beasley. They moved to Traverse City with their children, Brandon and Ashley, in 1996.

He thrived in business and retail management for over 35 years before retiring. In retirement, he embraced the opportunity to do his favorite things—spending time with his family, kayaking, and taking scenic drives, especially in the "Little Car." His retirement job at Grand Traverse Tours was quintessentially Mike: making new friends, showing everyone the beauty around them and sharing his love of life.

A devoted and cherished member of multiple faith-based study and support groups, Mike led his life and his relationships with the motto "Love God, Love People." Chasing sunrises and sunsets, everyone was a friend—he lived every day as an act of service. Mike was never too busy to answer a call and the hour was never too late for him to help a friend.

Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, MaryLou (Krygier) Bartkowiak; his children Brandon (Rachel) Bartkowiak and Ashley (Adam) Sohasky; and his five cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Thomas (Lori) Bartkowiak and Tina Bartkowiak. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Bartkowiak.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, from 2:00–8:00 p.m. at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City. Additional visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 25, from 12:00–1:00 p.m. at Kensington Church, 6880 Secor Road, Traverse City, with a service and memorial to follow.
