Michael Joseph Breithaupt, age 56, of Traverse City, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, after a several year battle of cancer, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Michael was born on Jan. 28, 1966 to John and Jean (Ockert) Breithaupt. Michael grew up in Traverse City, where he was a graduate of St. Francis High School and later attended Ferris State University. Michael played football, basketball and baseball for St. Francis High School. Michael was an all-around gifted athlete; he was named Most Valuable Player in 1983 and 1984 and named all-state as a member for the St. Francis football team. Go Glads! Michael was an avid hunter and loved to spend time with his family and friends. In his free time, Michael enjoyed spending time with his long-time fur-companion, Ekin, doing yard work, hosting bonfires, gardening, going to the beach and traveling with his children. Michael worked for many years at Golden Fowler Home Furnishings and always spoke highly of his boss and colleagues. The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Mike Mahn for his support. His family will never forget the love he had for others and the love he had for sharing vegetables from his garden and eggs from his chickens with friends and family. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Munson on D5 and the caring staff with Munson Hospice for their care and compassion for Michael. Michael is survived by his children, Sierra Breithaupt, Paige (Sean) Breithaupt-McPherson; parents, John and Jean Breithaupt; siblings, Michelle Seward and Jennifer (Joseph) Witkop.
