Michael Alfred Collings

Michael Alfred Collings, 59, of Traverse City, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015, at his home.

Mike was born on Monday, March 19, 1956, in Detroit, the son of Marjorie Ann and Alfred Leslie Collings. He married Robin June Woodward on Saturday, January 17, 1976, in Redford.

Starting his career in building homes as a teenager, Mike worked as an apprentice under a framing contractor, where he gained the knowledge and skill set needed to become a carpenter. As time went on, Mike found he had a unique talent in carpentry and continued to grow and learn all that he could, eventually owning his own framing company in Northern Michigan. As his knowledge for the industry grew, so did his passion for building homes. This led him to become licensed as a General Contractor, and later establish MAC Custom Homes, which he and Robin operated together. Mike was a member of the Home Builders Association and developed many meaningful relationships with colleagues in the industry.

Mike enjoyed golfing, boating, vacationing and playing pool, with his greatest enjoyment being his family, especially his five grandchildren. He attended Church of the Living God in years past - joining them on mission trips to various underprivileged countries to assist in the building of structures needed in the villages and cities. Mike was a true servant-leader, and he set a wonderful example for his family and all those who worked alongside him.

Mike is survived by his wife Robin; his daughters and their husbands, Bridgette Lee and Adriano Silva of Williamsburg; Jessica Lynn Collings and Adam Hogan and Kristen Liz and Jacek Wilk of Traverse City; his beloved grandchildren, Joey Elizabeth, Tyler Michael, Liam Michael, Olivia Grace and Owen Gregor. Also surviving are his siblings; Barb Ashton of Scottsdale, AZ, Tom Collings of Novi, Tina Garrison of Boulder, CO, Patrick (Tina) Collings of Westland and Katie (Jim) Tager of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Mike's sisters in law and brothers in law also survive, Susan and Curt Barrons of Traverse City and Bill and Adriann Woodward of Interlochen. Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation with Mike's family will take place on Tuesday, March 31 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The memorial service celebrating Mike's life will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, also at the funeral home. Guests may greet the family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. An additional time of fellowship will take place immediately following the service at the Church of the Living God, 1514 Birmley Rd., Traverse City. Memorial gifts will be directed to Pastors Martin and Elsa Hernandez in Jerez, Mexico in care of The Church of the Living God, 1514 Birmley Rd., Traverse City, MI 49696-8817 (please make checks payable to Church of the Living God - MX). Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
