Michael Wayne
Couture
September 19, 1954 – April 21, 2026
Michael Wayne Couture, 71, of Grawn, passed away April 21, 2026, at Munson Medical Center with his family at his side.
Michael was born on September 19, 1954, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Alfred Eugene and Betty Cleone (Fox) Couture. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1972 until 1975. During his service, he worked as a wheeled vehicle mechanic and was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.
In January of 1976, shortly after returning home, Michael met Colleen Sue Beckwith. Just four short months later, they were married. Together, they built a life full of love and raised two children, Michelle and Anthony.
After his time in the service, Michael spent his life doing what he loved, working on vehicles. He was a proud factory trained and certified Harley technician. Some of his most cherished memories were made on the open road. He was a true motorcycle enthusiast who loved the sound of an engine roaring to life. His knowledge of cars and motorcycles was unmatched. He was like an encyclopedia, able to recall details about engines, drivetrains and trim packages with ease.
In his spare time, Michael enjoyed watching television, especially classic John Wayne and other classic movies. He was also an avid boxing fan and could spend hours watching matches.
Michael will be remembered by his family as someone who was a bit sarcastic, very blunt, and never one to sugarcoat anything. He always did things his way and gave advice, whether you thought you needed it or not. More often than not, he was right. Above all, he was a devoted husband, a great father, and a wonderful grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Colleen; his daughter, Michelle (Chad) Liebler; his son, Anthony (Suzique) Couture; and his grandchildren, Gavin, Brody, Adelina, and Lincoln. He is also survived by his brother, Alfred Eugene Couture II, along with several other family members and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and was surely greeted in heaven by many of the dogs he loved throughout his life—especially Duke, his beloved black lab, whom he missed dearly.
Eventually Michael will be laid to rest at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens after he takes a few more Harley rides with his son.
