Michael Edwin Burton, 25, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Munson Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.

Michael was born in Traverse City on September 11, 1991, the son of Elizabeth Anne (Bostick) and Mark Edwin Burton. Michael attended Traverse City Schools, graduating from Traverse City West Senior High.

Known to his Mom as Toto and to his sister as Mieshka and to his father, Michael was always his "right hand man". Michael always considered his dad to be his best friend. Michael loved working in the food industry here in Traverse City. He was an avid Red Wings fan, and enjoyed playing all kinds of sports. His greatest joy was when he was fishing. He will always be known as a true gentleman who loved his family and as a practical joker. His wonderful smile made everyone smile and he had a great handshake.

Michael is survived by his Mom and Dad; his sister, Erica Burton, of Traverse City. Also surviving is his grandmother, Gayle Barclay of Maple City; his uncles and aunts, James and Lori Bostick and their son Jacob, of Chesapeake, VA, Ken and Laurie Burton of Parma and their daughter, Kenlee of Parma and Ken's daughter, Sarah (Ian) McCalley along with their four children; all of Grand Rapids; "Auntie" Karyn Burton of Cadillac, Robyn (Dennis) Yates and their children Warren and Derek of Empire, Tommy Burton of Anchorage, Alaska and his daughter Desiree of Florida; his "second Mom" Vickie Cooper of Traverse City, whom Michael affectionately called "Dos" and many other very good friends. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Grandma Patricia Lawrence, Grandma Nancy and Grandpa Ted Thornton, Grandpa Rex Burton, Grandma Blanche and Grandpa Charlie Bohan, Uncle Robert Scott Burton, Uncle Bob Sharp, Uncle Alan Helwig and his very special friend Nick Cooper.

A time to celebrate Michael's life will take place at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Burton family home, 3585 East Traverse Highway, Traverse City.
