Michael John McKim, 74 of Traverse City passed away unexpectedly on March 15, 2024 at Munson Medical Center after experiencing a massive stroke. He had courageously been fighting lung cancer for 9 months.
Mike was born on January 18, 1950 in Detroit to Wallace Williams and Barbara Jane (VanDusen) McKim.
Mike grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1968. In 1968 he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam Conflict in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
Mike started his career at Ford Motor company and then became a gifted welder. One of the biggest projects he worked on was the Zilwaukee Bridge. Following retirement, he moved to Traverse City.
Mike loved to go to the casino. He enjoyed playing 3 card poker and betting on the football game. In his younger years he loved to fish and play darts.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Wallace and brother Kenneth (Dee) McKim.
Mike is survived by his daughter Lisa (Shawn) Carr; son John McKim; grandchildren Drew and Dylan Carr; mother Barb; sister Donna (Garry) Crellin; niece Carrie (Christopher) Hahn; nephew Scott (Aisha) Crellin; niece Jennifer (Jim) Troeger; nephew Todd McKim and special friend Shirley.
The family will celebrate and honor his life privately.
