TRAVERSE CITY – Michael Schmuckal, age 68 of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2018 at his home with his wife.
Michael was born on October 15, 1950 in Kingsley, MI on the home farm to the late Elmer and Rose (Ockert) Schmuckal. He grew up in Hannah where he attended Hannah St. Mary's for 12 years and Traverse City St. Francis for 1 year. Mike also attended 4 years of technical school for electrical work, where he later became the owner and operator of Grand Traverse Electric and owner and operator of Schmuckal Electrical Services from 1988 to 1998.
On May 21, 1971, Michael married Deborah Barnes in Traverse City, MI. Michael also served in the United States Army.
Mike served as the Suttons Bay High School varsity baseball coach from 1992 to 1997. He also enjoyed; horseback riding, training horses, and anything pertaining to being a cowboy. He was an avid hunter, loved target shooting, basketball, the Detroit Tigers, gardening, watching western movies, learning about history, and story telling while spending time with his grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his wife of 47 and half years, Deborah Barnes Schmuckal, children; Nicole (Matthew) Pedrick, Erick Schmuckal, Erin (Kenny) Waszkiewicz, Adam (Angela) Schmuckal, grandchildren; Zackary Pedrick, Hailey Pedrick, Samuel Pedrick, Anthony Schmuckal, Ivy Waszkiewicz and Ian Waszkiewicz, siblings; Richard Schmuckal, James Schmuckal, Joy Schmuckal, Julie Schmuckal, Reuben (Becky) Barnes, Mary (Gary) Richter, Tom (Kelly) Barnes, Colleen (Don) Gallagher, Connie (George) Preston, Lisa (Patrick) Gallagher, Carrie (John) Sullivan, and Paula (Kay) Hunt.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Rose Schmuckal, brother, Charles Schmuckal, sister-in-law, Bonnie Schmuckal, mother-in-law, Helen Hunt, father-in-law, Floyd Hunt, nephews, Christopher Kalchik, and Zane K. Barnes, as well as many beloved cousins, uncles, and aunts.
A visitation for Mike will take place on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with time for family to share memories. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Hannah St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2912 West M-113, Kingsley, MI 49649. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass. Reverend Gerald Okoli will officiate. A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the mass.
