Michael "Mike" Steikar

Michael "Mike" Steikar, 58, of Traverse City, passed away January 24, 2023. The music enthusiast will be shining down from his new perch among the other free spirits.
Mike was born June 1, 1964 to Ernest and Shirly Steikar in Traverse City.
After moving in his younger years, and finishing high school at Forrest Hills Central High School in Grand Rapids, he ventured back up this way. He never lost touch with his old elementary school chums and upon return picked up right where they left off. To know Mike was to have a friend. One who cared more for you then he did himself, a person that would support you and build you up and someone who would give help and guidance to anyone at any time regardless of the circumstances.
His sense of humor was contagious and his passion for food did not go unnoticed. He found tranquility with water, especially the beach and could be found appreciating its beauty often.
One of his greatest loves was music. Anything…anytime… was his motto. He could hang with the band or blare it from the speakers at home- but none the less, there was some music for Mike.
On Saturday February 4, 2023 there will be an open house from 2-4pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home to celebrate Mike. All are encouraged to come with a great memory and to consider wearing something a little hippie like. as we all know the free spirit in Mike never settled for less than a good time. A post celebration for Mike will be announced at the open house.
Mike is survived by his children; Bryce, Austin and Alyssa Steikar, his partner Heather (Heiss) Garmhausen, the mother of his children and friend Michelle (Champ) Woodring and his bestie Fin, his 4-year-old bullmastiff.
