TRAVERSE CITY — Dr. Albert "Mike" Carl Yost, 77, of Traverse City and formerly of Livonia, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. Mike was born on Aug. 31, 1934, to the late Albert and Velma (Darby) Yost in Grosse Pointe. He graduated from National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Ill.On June 11, 1955, Mike entered into marriage with the former Shirley Ann Powell in Chicago.Mike later joined his father at the family business, Mechanical Manufacturing, Inc. Mike became co-owner of the company producing hydraulic and related industrial components, eventually selling the business, retiring and moving north to be closer to family.Mike was a longtime member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed spending time with family, reading, feeding backyard birds and watching sports. Mike was an avid sports fan and could often be found cheering for his beloved Tigers, Lions or Red Wings and watching U of M football.Mike is survived by his loving family; his son, Dave (Jan) Yost, of Oregon; his two daughters, Sue (Rob) Posey and Valerie (Rick) Pfander, all of Traverse City; seven grandsons, Rick (Cassie), Tim, Chris (Jena), Scott, Tony (Sara), Mike and Jeff; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn; his sisters, Midge (Roger) Gettle and Gloria Snow; and many other loving family members and friends.Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Shirley.Private family graveside services took place at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice House or the American Cancer Society.Please share thoughts with the family at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
