Mildred June Gamble, 87, of Cedar passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law.
Mildred was born on Monday, March 17, 1930 to the late William and Catherine (Mikowski) Smith in Dearborn. She worked for S. S. Kresge and in factory work until her children were born, at which time she became a full time homemaker.
On Saturday, March 31, 1951, Mildred married Norbert W. Gamble at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth. Mildred and Norbert lived in Garden City before moving to Traverse City and later lived for a time by Higgins Lake. She moved back to Traverse City in 2008.
Mildred attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cedar. She was active at the Senior Center here and enjoyed working in stained glass, jewelry making and beadwork. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, but mostly for the loving heart she had for her family.
She is survived by her children, Diana (Michael) Trottier of Cedar, Norma Jean Goins of Tampa, FL, Larry (Susan) Gamble of Hartland and Patricia (Eugene) Hansen of Traverse City. Also surviving are her 9 loving grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1997; a grandson, Jason R. Goins, son in law Dennis Goins, sister Helen Kraitz and brother Frank W. Smith.
At Mildred's request, no formal services will take place. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
