TRAVERSE CITY — TRAVERSE CITY — Mildred M. Mullen, 93, longtime resident of Traverse City, passed away Saturday morning, April 9, 2011, after a brief stay at Munson Hospice House.Mildred was born Dec. 7, 1917, to the late Nicholas and Helen (Grahuski) Walters in Traverse City. She was born into a family of six and raised in the area. After a chance encounter with James E. Mullen, Mildred began working in the office at Mullen Moving and Transport. The two were soon married and life took them to other areas, only to return to Traverse City after retirement. Mildred was a wonderful help around the office and a meticulous bookkeeper.Mildred enjoyed passing time reading, listening to music and, in earlier years, dancing. She kept up on all the political happenings with the help of Fox News, or would get caught up in the latest movie on the Hallmark Channel.Mildred loved her family and was a proud grandmother. She cherished every opportunity to go out a enjoy a meal together and had the ability to make each grandchild feel special.Mildred is survived by her son, Robert (Patricia) Mullen, of Mesick; her daughter, Helen (Joseph) Schleicher, of Traverse City; a brother, Clifford (Anita) Walters; five grandchildren, Mike Mullen, Theresa Reischling, Jim Mullen, Jim Schleicher and Jody Annis; seven great-grandchildren, Corey, Cassidy, Lucas, Kaylee, Kaleb, Ethan and Nolan; and many other loving family members and friends.Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alvin and Willard; and two sisters, Ethel and Viola.Visitation for friends and family will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, with a vigil service to take place at 7 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with The Rev. Kenneth Stachnik officiating.
