Traverse City - Milton D. Stanton, 74 of Traverse City and formerly of Reed City passed away May 28, 2017 at Munson Hospice House after a courageous and dignified battle with cancer.
Milt was born on June 16, 1942 in Reed City to the late Delbert Francis and Dorothy (Earnest) Stanton.
Milt served our country honorably as a member of the United States Navy. Shortly thereafter, he earned his bachelor's degree from Ferris State University.
On August 17, 1968, Milt married his best friend, Victoria A. Tyler in Cadillac, MI.
He was employed by Grand Traverse County and served as the Environmental Administrator for the Health Department for 28 years. A job he enjoyed while working with those he still considered friends even 20 years after retirement. Many still comment about what a great mentor he was.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, woodworking and fishing. Milt was also an avid reader and enjoyed reading about history. Milt's sense of humor and ability to spark conversation with anyone made him one of a kind. Milt was respected greatly both professionally and personally. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and loving family.
Milt is survived by his wife of 48 years Victoria "Vickie", daughter Rebecca "Beckie" (Pat) Wooters (of Traverse City), son Brett (Lyn) Stanton (of Kansas City); grandchildren Hunter Wooters, Harper, Gage and Ellie Stanton, brother Derald (Bonnie) Stanton (of Traverse City), sister Marilyn Bott (of Midland) as well as a special Uncle and Aunt, Norm and Floss Earnest (of Reed City).
