Monica Ann (Baray) Yetter - 96
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, prankster and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Munson Medical Center, in Traverse City MI, of natural causes.
A Traverse City native, Monica was born June 20, 1921 to Minnie (Ludka) and Frank Thomas. She met the late William Baray, U.S. Navy sailor, and were wed December 2, 1944. Monica and William are the parents of Thomas Baray (Caro, MI), Janet Pickerd (deceased) and Nancy Gudith (Traverse City).
She attended Traverse City Central High and is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in Teaching. In 1986 she retired from Traverse City Area Public Schools after teaching third/fourth grade at Cherry Knoll Elementary for 20 years.
Shortly after retirement Monica married her late husband, Glenn Yetter Sr., August 22, 1986. Together they enjoyed playing cards and spending their winters in Florida.
Monica had a quick wit and zest for life. She loved to tell jokes and appreciated a good prank. She led an active life and was always on the go. Monica enjoyed crafting and turned her hobby of sewing and knitting into a part time business selling her crafts at local events.
Monica is survived by her children; Thomas Baray and Nancy Gudith, her grandchildren; John (Katie) Pickerd , Monique Baray, Scott (Stephanie) Gudith and Jennifer (Allen) Davis (Pickerd) and great-grandchildren; Justin Pickerd, Aleah Pickerd, Abigail Gudith, Megan Gudith, Sophia Gudith, Tyler Davis and Ava Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, husband Glenn Yetter Sr. and daughter Janet Pickerd.
A visitation for Monica will take place from 2:00 - 3:00 pm on Monday September 11, 2017 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a memorial service beginning at 3:00 pm. Tim Moeggenberg will officiate. The family asks for any memorial contributions to be made to the Traverse City Senior Center, 801 E. Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49686.
