SMuriel Warmenhoven Joldersma, 81, passed away January 24, 2019 in Traverse City. She was born in Grand Rapids on August 16, 1937, to Lt. Col. Simon M.D. and Henrietta (Mandemaker) Warmenhoven.
As a child, Muriel spent her summers at the family cottage in Grand Haven. She graduated from Wyoming High School in 1956 then raised her family in Jenison. In 1975, Muriel graduated nursing school with her RN and began her nursing career at Butterworth Hospital in oncology, then became a traveling hospice nurse.
In 1984, Muriel married Robert Joldersma. Together, they moved up north in 1984 temporarily and permanently in 1994. She was a member of First Congregational Church. She began her retail life by opening the "Muriel's" stores. She loved operating her clothing stores and spending time with family and friends. She and Bob had many great travels during their years together.
Throughout her life, Muriel's love of theater was very important to her, from her productions in the Jenison Community Players to her final production of "The Cemetery Club" in Suttons Bay in 2001.
In addition to her husband, Bob, Muriel is survived by her sons Jeff (Sue) Vos of Hudsonville and Jim Vos of Grandville; daughter Jane Tschannen of Manistee; stepson Randall (Jodi) Joldersma of Caledonia; stepdaughters Jan (Jeff) Havemeier of Grand Rapids and Beth (Scott) Mingerink of Byron Center; sister Ann (Charles) Holman of Spring Lake; brother Simon (Mary) Warmenhoven of Holland; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Thomas Tschannen.
Visitation for Muriel will take place on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church with the Rev. Chad Oyer and Dr. Gary Hogue officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to give a gift in memory of Muriel may direct contributions to Munson Hospice House or First Congregational Church.
