Murrel "Bud" Johnson, 91, of Duck Lake Peninsula passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 with the love of his life Doneva (Weidenhamer) and his family at his side. Bud was born on April 8, 1926 in Interlochen, Michigan to the late Mearon and Aletha (Pratt) Johnson. He is survived by one brother, Kenneth (Betty) Johnson and was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Vera (Zelen) Johnson and Marie Johnson.
Bud graduated from Traverse City High School in 1944. He proudly served his country as a Navy Seal in the Southwest Pacific. After returning home, Bud worked in the building trades and owned his own construction company.
When he was not working he loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Doneva, two sons and a daughter; Steven (Shirley) Johnson of Lake Ann, Michigan, Paul (Cathy) Johnson of Harrison, Michigan and Linda (Jim) Jordan of Holland, Michigan. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A Funeral Service honoring Bud will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visiting one hour prior, on Monday, September 25, 2017 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1023 S. Division St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684. Pastor Richard Rice will officiate. Burial will follow in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Military Honors conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy, Cherryland V.F.W. Post 2780 and American Legion Post 35.
