Myrtle Thomas Dishman, 87, of Traverse City, Michigan passed away Friday, January 16, 2015, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Myrtle was born on Wednesday, June 8, 1927, to the late John Floyd and Willie Ann (Myers) Thomas in Cliffside, NC. She had made her home at the Village at Bay Ridge in Traverse City the last six years, having moved here from Lehigh Acres, FL. She had lived in Columbia, SC most all of her life.
Having worked in cost accounting for 25 years at Selfridge Air Force Base and at Ft. Jackson, Myrtle was very proud of her career as a cost accountant. She was also an avid reader.
Myrtle is survived by her children, Sam (Cecelia) Shepherd and Tommie Collier, all of Traverse City, Susan (Bill) Lyons of Minneapolis, MN, step-children, Jim (Linda) Dishman of Cadillac and Becky (Tom) Murphy of Memphis, MI; a son-in-law, Pat O'Brien of Ft. Myers, FL. 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Dishman, having shared nearly 20 years together before Paul's Death in 1994. Myrtle was also preceded in death by her daughter Jo Katherine O'Brien.
Visitation for Myrtle will take place Saturday, January 31, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at The Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Rd., Columbia, SC followed by a graveside service immediately afterwards at Greenlawn Memorial Park, located adjacent to the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Myrtle's name may be directed to the American Diabetes Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
