Nancy Joan Conn

Nancy Joan McPherson Conn, 66, of Traverse City, passed away on February 8, 2016. Nancy was born on October 14, 1949 in Mount Clemens, MI., to her parents Betty Zollars McPherson and the late Joseph Benedict McPherson.
Nancy graduated from Western Michigan University with a BS in Education and Central Michigan University with an MA in Education. She moved to Traverse City in 1985 and was employed with Traverse City Area Public Schools as both an elementary and middle school teacher. Nancy was an active member of Traverse City Education Association as secretary for 19 years and was elected to represent Traverse City at Michigan Education Association and National Education Association meetings. Nancy loved teaching and helping students learn subjects that were difficult for them while pushing them to reach higher goals. She cared about every student in her classroom and loved to see them succeed. Nancy loved to travel and was a voracious reader. She also volunteered for the Traverse City Film Festival for 7 years. Nancy touched many lives and will be missed by all.
Nancy is survived by her son Casey Ryan Conn and his fiancé Kate Margaret Lewis of Traverse City; mother Betty Zollars McPherson; sisters Debbie (John) Heauchert, Kathy McPherson; brothers Danny McPherson, Mark McPherson; Nieces, Tracy (Mark) Shacklett, Nicole (Jeff) Campbell, Amanda Aurand; and nephew Ryan Aurand. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Benedict McPherson.
