Nancy Breitmayer Godwin
TRAVERSE CITY – Nancy Breitmayer Godwin, age 68 of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in the loving care of her family.
Nancy Breitmayer was born on September 11, 1949 to the late Robert W. Breitmayer and Helen (Lamb) Breitmayer in Jackson, MI.
Nancy attended Jackson Community College and the University of Michigan. After graduation Nancy worked at the Ella Sharp Museum in Jackson. It was in 1974 that Nancy married her husband of 44 years, Barry Godwin and together they resided in Saginaw, MI. While in Saginaw, Nancy was on staff and held various positions at the Saginaw Art Museum and was active in the Junior League of Saginaw.
In 1982 Barry and Nancy moved to Northern Michigan. Nancy worked for many small businesses around the Traverse City area - her favorites were Mary's Kitchen Port and The Candle Factory. She was an active volunteer for a variety of local groups and organizations. Nancy and Barry were members of the Presbyterian Church, where Nancy was a deacon. She was very involved with the church - volunteering in the office and helping to coordinate the Madrigal Dinner. She loved seeing Libby and her friends grow up - being a mom was her favorite role.
In the summertime you could find Nancy spending time on the porch at the Torch Lake Yacht and Country Club with her family and friends - taking care of the geraniums, helping with the Women's Butterfly fleet, planning the Moosewood Ball, The Event and various Regatta parties. Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and creative nature. Her wit and charm were legendary, and she couldn't be beat at Fictionary (no, that is NOT a typo!).
Nancy is survived by her husband, Barry, daughter, Elizabeth (Theodore) Tubekis and her expected grandchild. Her sisters; Susan Elliott, Bonnie Breitmayer, and Mary Pachella. Nancy is also survived by a niece and many nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation for Nancy will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Presbyterian Church. Funeral services for Nancy will take place on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 12:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. William Myers and Rev. David Ramage will officiate. Private interment will take place at the Torch Lake Township Cemetery.
