Nancy Hoblit

Nancy Hoblit, beloved wife, educator, traveler, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of those who knew her. Born on May 12, 1949, in Madison, Indiana, Nancy grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where she developed a lifelong love of learning, music, and family.

Nancy attended Fairview High School and Colonel White High School in Dayton. During her high school years, she especially enjoyed singing with the "Little Colonels" Choir, an experience that remained a treasured memory throughout her life.

Her passion for education led her to Ball State University, where she earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education. Nancy dedicated sixteen years to teaching students in the Traverse City, Michigan, and Dayton, Ohio, school systems, touching countless young lives through her commitment and love of learning.

In 1985, Nancy married Fred Hoblit, Lt Col USAF. After completing the school year, she relocated to Alexandria, Virginia, in 1986 to begin a new chapter with Fred. Always eager to learn and embrace new opportunities, Nancy later earned a Master's Degree in Contract Management from the University of Virginia.

Nancy enjoyed a successful twenty-one-year career with SAIC and retired in 2009. Her colleagues knew her for her intelligence, professionalism, and dedication.

Outside of work, Nancy embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She took up golf and became an accomplished player, enjoying rounds on some of the world's most beautiful courses, particularly in Ireland and Scotland. She was fortunate to attend both the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, creating wonderful memories along the way. Among her favorite Olympic experiences was spending time with her brother, Eric Carpenter, and sister-in-law, Ninfa Carpenter, during the Atlanta Games.

Nancy cherished her summers in Traverse City, Michigan, spending countless hours at the family cottage on Long Lake. Whether fishing, boating, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends, those summers brought her tremendous joy and created lasting memories, the love of Traverse City was in her DNA.

Nancy also had a passion for yard sales and antiques. She loved searching for unique treasures and exploring antique markets, building a collection of cherished finds that reflected her curiosity and appreciation for history.

Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Eric Carpenter; and her parents, Martha; and Warren Carpenter.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Frederic H. Hoblit; her stepsons, Noel Hoblit and Brian Hoblit; her two grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Ninfa Carpenter.

Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, intelligence, adventurous spirit, love of family, and the lasting impact she made on the lives of her students, friends, and loved ones. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
