TRAVERSE CITY — Nancy Jorgenson, 79, of Traverse City and formerly of Detroit, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Traverse Manor.Nancy was born May 17, 1931, to the late Clarence and Thelma (Griffiths) Boomhower in Detroit. On Jan. 27, 1978, Nancy entered into marriage with Russell Jorgenson. He preceded her in death in 2008.Nancy was a graduate of Albion College and became a registered nurse after attending the Harper School of Nursing. She got her first taste of northern Michigan while completing her resident training at the Traverse City State Hospital. Becoming a well-respected nurse, Nancy took the position as Director of Nursing, serving at a few facilities including Munson Medical Center. Nancy was instrumental in many positive changes for nursing and a part of the strategic planning for the future of Munson.Nancy was undoubtedly a lover of animals and enjoyed her time visiting the Horse Shows by the Bay and attending dog shows with her daughter and family. In earlier years Nancy enjoyed to travel and spent time with Russ cruising or visiting their spot in Curacao. Nancy often liked to pass time over a game of Scrabble or playing a hand of Bridge. She will be deeply missed.Nancy is survived by her daughter, Laura (Bernard) Salvatore, of Traverse City; her son, Tim (Janie) Watson, of Key West, Fla.; grandchildren, Cole and Paul Salvatore, Scott Davenport, Andrew (Angela) Davenport, and Barry (Melissa) Richardson; great-grandchildren, Ben and Gabby Davenport, and Jenna and Baird Richardson; great-great-granddaughter, Madelyn Mae Davenport; and many other loving family members and friends.Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Russell.Private family funeral services will take place.
