Nancy Stander

Nancy Stander, 86, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023, at Boardman Lake Glens.
Nancy was born July 24, 1936, in Mason, MI, to the late Ray E. and Grace A. (Beebe) Alling.
In 1956, Nancy moved to Leland with her then husband, Charles. While living in Leland, she became active in the Leland Community United Methodist Church, and choir, where she loved to sing, and met some of her closest friends. Early on, she was active in the local 4-H program. She took pride in her knitting abilities, and was able to pass on this skill to several friends.
When her youngest child became school age, she began her 32-year career, working as an administrative assistant for the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office. As many of the early department personnel would agree, it was Nancy who was "in charge" of the daily operations.
After retiring, she moved back to the Lansing area, to be closer to her sister. It was there that she enjoyed volunteering at McLaren Hospital, where she assisted in the surgery lounge.
After several years, she returned to the Traverse City area, to be closer to her children.
Nancy is survived by Michael (Gail) Stander, Jana Kiessel, Terri (David) Gibson, Robb (Margo) Stander, and Andrew (Brooke) Stander; grandchildren, William Stander, Patrick Kiessel, Lee Kiessel, Nathan Kiessel, Melissa Harness, Tim Gibson, Lauren VanHouten, Claudia Toro, and Alanna Rock; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Vicki Bartley.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Duane and Terry, brother-in-law Joseph, and her beloved grandson Steven.
The family would like to acknowledge the extremely compassionate and loving care from the staffs at Boardman Lake Glens and Hospice of Michigan.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 23, 2023 with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, also at Reynolds-Jonkhoff. A luncheon will take place after the funeral service, followed by burial at East Leland Cemetery.
