Nathan John Brock, 87, of Williamsburg, Michigan passed away peacefully at Munson Hospice House on December 21, 2023. Nathan (Nate) was born in Atwood, Michigan on April 16, 1936. He was the son of Nick and Emma (Veenstra) Brock and graduated from Ellsworth High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and attended classes at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Here he was trained and certified as a helicopter mechanic. He was then sent to South Korea where he continued working on helicopters. Nate carried the Bible in his back pocket all through the service.
Back in the states, Nate worked for Railway Express for 2 years in Traverse City. For the next 35 years he worked as a driver for Parker Motor Freight. He loved his job and made many friends in Traverse City, Kalkaska, Elk Rapids and Bellaire. In 1994 he retired with well over a million miles of driving for the company. He always said that he had the best job! Nate had a love for old cars, riding his motorcycle and playing cards. Most of all he loved his 3 grandchildren.
Nate married his wife Betty (Hoffman) Brock in Petoskey in 1961 at St. Francis Xavier Church. They celebrated 62 anniversaries together. After they both retired they enjoyed many winters in Alabama and Florida They also went on several trips with his two cousins and their wives. They took 3 cruises, then traveled to Italy, Switzerland, Alaska, Ireland, Spain, Greece and Turkey.
Besides his wife Betty, Nate is survived by his son David (Jenifer) Brock of Grand Haven and his 3 grandchildren Shannon, Nathan and Sarah. He is also survived by nephews Jack (Carole) Townsend, Kim Choals, Calvin Cornett and a niece Terry Fiorenzo.
Preceding him in death were his two sisters, Christina Cornett and Martha Choals.
Nate loved his Lord and Savior and read the Bible daily. He previously attended Faith Church and later became a member of Christ the King in Acme
There will be a public visitation on Wednesday, December 27th from 5-7pm at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Thursday, December 28th, at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior at Christ the King Church in Acme. Burial will take place after the service, 2:00pm at Atwood Cemetery.
