Nelita Ann Sherberneau, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024. She was 88. Nelita was born on January 14, 1936 to the late Martin and Martha (Deering) Nowak. On June 16, 1962 she married Owen G. Sherberneau. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage before he passed in 2020. The family purchased land on East Grand Traverse Bay in 1979, building their dream home in 1983. In retirement Nelita and Owen enjoyed the beach, gardening, a koi pond, feeding birds and sharing their home with Golden Retrievers and several cats. The family vacationed for years in Canada and enjoyed many cruises with life-long friends. Nelita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Nicholas Sherberneau. She is survived by her daughter Christine (George) Erikson and son Eric (Jay Carlos) Sherberneau.
