Neta P. Evans

Traverse City - Her husband Joel F. Evans led Neta P. Peterson Evans into heaven on March 13, 2013 from Cherry Hill Haven Foster Care Home.

Neta was born December 20, 1922 and lived her life in Traverse City, MI. She was the daughter of Paul O. and Bernice E. (Stearns) Peterson. After graduating from Traverse City Central High School, she married Joel F. Evans on July 15, 1943 in Miami, FL before he was shipped out with the U.S. Navy. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2005

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, two brothers, Ron and Gary Peterson, and two grandchildren. Surviving her is her daughter Bonnie L. (Patrick) Sullivan of Grawn, MI, and son Jeffery L. (Darla) Evans of Willow, Alaska. Many lovingly knew her as "Gram". Grandchildren are Mike (Betty) Sullivan, John (Carrie) Sullivan, Ben (Erin) Evans, Nick (Jennifer) Evans, Katrina (Mike) Pitre, Kale (Terri) Zimmer. Her great-grandchildren are: Emily Panek, Sarah (David) Youker, Michael (Melissa) Sullivan; Paul and Helen Sullivan; Madison and Tyler Shapiro, Carson Evans; Rachael, Katelyn, Amanda, Elizabeth, Nathaniel, Jessica, Samuel, Laura and Lindsey Evans; Natasha and Gabrielle Pitre; Cameron, Kaley Zimmer; Corey Nutter, and Patrick Jones. She was also very proud of her "Fifth Generation Family" with great-great-grandchildren: Kyran Panek and Maddi Sullivan. Also surviving her is her sister Yvonne Priest, sister-in-law Lee Peterson and many nieces and nephews.
For many years the Traverse City Schools employed Neta as a cook. Before retirement in 1986 she was cooking for Interlochen Elementary School, which was close to her home on Long Lake. She immensely enjoyed gathering with her friends, neighbors, and family. She loved music, dancing, and playing the violin. Other joys in her life were sewing, knitting, genealogy, and camping at Buckley Old Engine Show.

A Funeral Service honoring Neta will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Rev. Marvin Rosa will officiate. Burial will take place in the spring at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
