Nicolas "Nick" Mark Kroupa, 74, of Old Mission Peninsula, passed away on December 24, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Nick was born on July 29, 1950, in Traverse City, to the late Donald and Evelyn (Belleville) Kroupa. He graduated from the Traverse City High School in 1968 and he proudly chose to stay rooted on the Old Mission Peninsula, where he spent his entire life. Nick met and eventually married Kathryn "Kathy" (Ogan) February 18, 1994. Together they lovingly shared over 30 wonderful years together.
A dedicated Resort Caretaker, Nick worked on the local resorts and cherished his family farm of cherries and grapes. Nick was also a longtime member of the AA fellowship, a source of strength and camaraderie for many years.
Nick was a man of many talents, an avid hunter and fisherman who cherished his time outdoors. He felt immense pride in placing American flags at all four Peninsula cemeteries, a task he considered an honor every time he did it over the last 54 years. His humility and sense of duty shone brightly in this and so many other aspects of his life.
Known for his sharp mind and wisdom, Nick often knew "a whole lot about a lot of things" but was wise enough to seek others' expertise when needed. His good nature, integrity, and willingness to lend a hand made him a trusted friend and neighbor. While he was aware of everyone's business, he had the discretion to keep it private—a quality that endeared him to many.
Nick will be remembered for his strength, humility, and unwavering commitment to helping others, whether it was on their farms or in their homes. He was, simply put, a "really nice guy" who touched countless lives.
Nick is survived by his wife Kathy, his daughter Jenelle (Chad Freeland) Kroupa, Jenelle's mother Joan (Jim) Rowland, his favorite sister Marilyn (Jan) (Wollam) Linderman, his sister-in-law, Joan Kroupa, and her children; Michelle, Mary, John, and Stephanie along with their families, and many other loving family members and friends. Nick will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers John and David.
A celebration of Nick's life will be planned and announced for early Summer of 2025. In lieu of flowers or food, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice. Kindly share thoughts and memories with his family at
