Oral Matthews

TRAVERSE CITY – Our dear mother, Oral Matthews, age 93, was welcomed into the arms of her loving Lord and Savior on February 27, 2017, surrounded by her children.
Oral was born in Akron, MI on August 20, 1923 to Roy and Laura (Feit) Odgen. Following her graduation from high school, she served our country as a member of the Women's Army Air Corp from 1942 until 1945. She achieved the rank of Corporal. . She married Hoyt R. Matthews in 1945.
Mom loved the out of doors and she loved camping. Her hobbies included baking, needle point and drawing. She was a loyal, loving and compassionate woman.
Oral is survived by her daughters; Diane Parvizi, Laura Matthews, Nancy (Ben) Teeples, Rose (Steven) Gensler, Marcia (Dustin) Gensler, sons; Dean Matthews, Harold (Tina) Matthews, and son-in-law, Parviz Parvizi. Oral is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Oral was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hoyt Matthews, sisters; Leila Griffin, Lucille Pertler, Garnet Chittenden, Beth Wilson, Virginia Cooper, Vivian Ogden, and brother, Walter Ogden.
A visitation for Oral will take place on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at 3 PM Saturday, March 4, 2017 also at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Immediately following the service, graveside services will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
