Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG — Orange Hinds, 90, of Williamsburg, passed away at his home in Hope Village on Jan. 24, 2012. Orange was born on Sept. 19, 1921, in Flint, the son of Orange Linzie and Susan Tracy (Sewell) Hinds. He was a 1940 graduate of Kalkaska High School. Orange was a veteran of World War II, serving in Britain, France, Luxemburg, Holland and Belgium as a member of the U.S. Army's 969th Engineer Maintenance Company. After the war he attended trade school in Detroit and was an electrician for many years with Davis Electric and Grand Traverse Electric Companies in Traverse City. During that time he was a member of IBEW Local 498, serving as their financial secretary for a number of years. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching sports. He attended the First Baptist Church in Traverse City.Orange was always eager to offer his knowledge and skills to his friends, family and neighbors.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 49 years, Gladys Annie (Bosse); brother, Sherman J. Hinds; and two sons, Rocknie W. and James J.; and grandson, Timothy J.D. Hinds. He is survived by his sisters, Pearl E. Wind, of Kalkaska, and Bonnie Kalina, of Racine, Wis.; brothers, Ronald, of Florida, Donald, of Kalkaska, Jerry, of Traverse City, Richard, of Mancelona, and Robert, of Kalkaska; sons, R. Patrick (Elizabeth), of Traverse City, and Daniel D. (Rebecca), of Fife Lake; daughter, Shelley M. (Steven) Sitzes, of Marietta, Ga.; and daughter-in-law, Virginia Hinds, of Newport, R.I.; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held today, Jan. 26, 2012, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Mansfield presiding. Interment will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be directed to Munson Hospice House or the Munson Foundation for Diabetes Education.
