Otto Hanell, 88 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Munson Medical Center. Otto was born on June 7, 1926 in Traverse City to the late Otto and Lydia (Sandbacka) Hanell. He was married to Dorothy Summers on Dec. 3, 1949 in Traverse City. Otto had been employed by the Grand Traverse County Road Commission as the shop Supervisor and retired after over 43 years of service. He was a craftsman and loved woodworking. He loved to play golf and was also a talented painter.
Otto is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy, a son, Otto "Andy" Hanell, a daughter, Jan Nickerson, two grandchildren; Sarah (Shawn) Dunn and Justin (fiancée Amanda Schaub) Nickerson; four great-grandsons; Jordan, Evan, Jackson and Tristan; sister-in-law, Ida Hanell and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
