Patricia "Patty" Ann Hartsell, 87, of Traverse City passed away Saturday July 13, 2024.
Patty was born on January 27, 1937 in Ypsilanti, MI to the late David and Geneva (Peters) VanDeventer.
After graduating from high school, Patty dedicated her life to caring for others. She began her career at the State Hospital before moving on to work as a dietitian and cook at the Arnold Engstrom Children's Hospital and the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Patty truly loved her job and the people she served.
In her spare time, Patty was an avid cook and baker, known for her delicious homemade candy and yummy cakes. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing and knitting. Patty also loved outdoor activities such as biking, picnicking, and especially roller-skating in her younger years.
Patty was a proud member of the Traverse City Cherry Capital Clowns and served as a Cherry Festival Ambassador for 23 years, where she worked with special needs children and helped the handicapped. She cherished her moments sitting in the sun, watching the boats on the bay.
Patty will be missed by her children Brenda Hewitt-Hartsell and Todd Hartsell, her grandson Michael Hewitt-Hartsell, her siblings, Carl (Becky) VanDeventer, Roger (Gloria) VanDeventer, Joyce (Jim) Templin and many other loving family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Shirley VanDeventer, Thomas VanDeventer, and her son-in-law Ralph Hewitt
Her memorial service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 2pm in the beautiful gardens at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Visitation and refreshments will begin at 1pm.
