Patricia Ann Smith, 89, of Traverse City passed away on March 29, 2024 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Pat was born on July 8, 1934 in Chicago, IL to the late Alfred and Frances Brandt. Growing up she loved ballet dancing and music generally. In 1959 she married Robert N. Smith and the two celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage before he passed in 2008. Their first home was in Orlando, FL where all three of their children were born. In 1966, the family moved to Springfield, VA where Bob was stationed at the Pentagon in the Air Force.
In an era when women were just beginning to work outside the home, Pat worked in Human Resources for Hecht's as the key breadwinner when Bob retired from the Air Force and went back to school to obtain a Master in Business Administration. In 1976, the family moved to Traverse City where Pat became involved in multiple volunteer efforts connected with First Congregational Church, where she was a choir member and became an office administrator, as well as in support of the Symphony Orchestra. In her later years, she dedicated much time and attention to caring for her son Randy who was mentally ill. She walked fast and far to keep fit; enjoyed music, attending concerts, museums and various cultural events; loved reading and watching movies.
Pat was preceded in death by her brothers Jim and Dick; husband; and sons Brad and Randy. Pat is survived by her daughter Holly Clack of Stow, MA; granddaughter Miranda Clack at Dartmouth College; sister Linda Brandt and niece Katie Massoudian, both of whom reside in the Los Angeles, CA area.
The family will celebrate her life privately. Memorial contributions in her honor may be directed to Northern Lakes Community Mental Health at
