Patricia Halligan Castaldo, 87, of Traverse City and longtime resident of Monroe, NY, passed away peacefully, Saturday, October 26, 2013, after several years of increasing memory loss and anemia. Her family was by her side at Boardman Lake Glens-Brigadoon in Traverse City, MI
Born Patricia Ann Halligan on January 18, 1926 to the late Patrick and Dora (McGoey) Halligan in Bronx, NY.
She was a graduate of St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School Bronx, NY; The College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle NY; and the University of New York at New Paltz.
Patricia fell in love and married Edward Castaldo on September 4, 1948 in Mt. Vernon NY. They enjoyed 61years of marriage together.
A passionate teacher, Patricia had a 39 year career as an elementary school teacher, mostly in Orange County NY – Monroe-Woodbury Central School District. She enjoyed 28 years of retirement, much of it with her husband Edward. Patricia was often found painting and sketching one room school houses or light houses. Patricia was very accepting of all people and enjoyed attending social functions at every opportunity. Edward and Patricia were longtime members of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Harriman, New York. Patricia was blessed with a full life, the love of her family and friends, and will be missed for her compassionate nature.
Patricia is survived by her children; her son, Patrick (Nancy) Castaldo of Bel Air, MD; her daughter, Maureen (Paul) Davis of Traverse City, MI; six grandchildren: Nicole, Timothy, Sarah, Ian, Emma and Hannah; her sister Dorothy (Jack) McCabe; as well as many other loving family members and friends. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 4, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church hall in Mapleton, with Monsignor Edwin Thome officiating.
