Patricia C. Groleau

Patricia C. Groleau, known as Pat, age 94, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, in Traverse City.

Pat was born on July 1, 1932, in Traverse City, Michigan, to Willard Herald and Wilhelmina (Courtade) Herald. She grew up in the Traverse City area and went on to build a life centered around her family, her work, and the many people she cared for.

On October 28, 1950, Pat married the love of her life, Duane “Frenchie” Groleau. Together, they shared many wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2009. Their family grew to include two children, a son, Lou (Lynn) Groleau, and a daughter, Rene (John) VandeKerkhof.

Pat dedicated more than 30 years of her working life to Michigan Bell. She began her career as a telephone operator and, through her years of hard work and dedication, eventually became a chief clerk. She took pride in her work and in the many years she spent serving others.

Outside of work, Pat found joy in her gardens and in caring for the people around her. She had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a hand, whether a friend or family member needed help with something big or small

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Wilhelmina Herald, and her beloved husband, Duane “Frenchie” Groleau, and brother Albert Herald.

She is survived by her children, Lou (Lynn) Groleau and Rene (John) VandeKerkhof; grandchildren, Matt, Shane, Andrew, and Jessica (Jake); great-grandchildren, Mahaney and Mayson; and her brother, Albert Herald. She also leaves behind many friends and extended family members who were fortunate to know and love her.

A Catholic Funeral Service for Pat will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service, with burial taking place afterward at Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Pat’s honor may be directed towards French Manor South, of Traverse City.
