Patricia Louise Hendry, 85, of Rapid City, died Monday, October 3, 2016, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.
Patty was born on March 31, 1931, to the late Lawrence and Martha E. "Betty" (McFate) Turner in Detroit. She graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1949 and continued her education at the Detroit Business Institute, earning her degree in the executive business secretarial program.
On April 18, 1953, she married Lloyd William Hendry at Redford United Methodist Church. The happy couple built the original cottage on Torch River early in their marriage.
Patty had been employed by the Wonderland Mall in Livonia as a secretary and office manager, retiring from there after many years of service. Following their retirements, Pat and Lloyd moved to this area in 1990, where she was an active member of the Alden United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir was a member of the United Methodist Women, served on the Missions Committee, the Administrative Council and the Prayer Shawl Knitting Group. She was proud that she had been a Methodist her entire life.
In addition to singing, Patty enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting and baking, and was especially known for her homemade jams.
Patty is survived by her children, William Lloyd (Kim) Hendry of Rapid City, Elizabeth Ann (Alfredo) Montalvo of Farmington; her grandchildren, Katie (Steve) Hoadley of Lake Ann, Adam (Alison) Hendry of Troy and their son, Patty's great-grandchild Nolan Lloyd Hendry. Also surviving Patty is her brother Stewart (Marilyn) Turner of Sanford Lake and many nieces and nephews. Patty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lloyd.
A service celebrating Patty's life will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Alden United Methodist Church. Pastor Dan Biteman will officiate.
