Traverse City - Patricia Irene Hummel Settles, 78, of Traverse City, formerly of Empire, passed away April 18, 2015, at Munson Medical Center.
Patricia was born on March 23, 1937, in Ionia, to the late Joseph and Jessie (Blakeslee) Hummel.
Pat earned her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Michigan and Masters in Social Work from Michigan State University. She moved to the area in 1981, from Manchester, where she began working at TBAISD. She was a social worker there for 15 years where she served in the infant and toddler preschool. Pat attended Grace Episcopal Church, was a member at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, and member of First United Methodist Church in Glasgow, KY. In her spare time, Pat enjoyed hiking, biking, reading, playing the violin, travelling, gardening, writing, spending time with animals and working with children.
Pat is survived by her son, Geoffrey (Janice) Stroud-Settles of Grand Canyon Village, AZ; son, Christopher Settles of Toledo, OH; and brother, Gerald (Sharon) Hopkins of Belmont.
Pat was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Settles, daughter, Robin Settles, brother, Robert Hopkins and stepsisters, Virginia Spiering and Doris Kline.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 26, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
The funeral service celebrating Pat's life will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015, at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior.
Memorial contributions in memory of Pat may be directed to the Association for Children's Mental Health (Traverse City Chapter for Camp Scholarships), the International Education Wolf Center in Ely, MN, or the Glen Arbor Fire and Rescue. Envelopes will be available at the visitation and funeral service.
