Obituary

Patrick (Pat) Michael McGinty, age 74, of Traverse City, Michigan (formerly of Westminster, Maryland and West Bloomfield, Michigan), passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at his home with his wife and daughter. Pat was born on October 25, 1949, in Bay City, Michigan to the late John and Ernestine (Austin) McGinty. He was raised by Ernestine and stepfather Richard Wisnerowicz after the passing of his father John J. McGinty when he was 2 years old.

Pat was born the youngest of four children. He was a 1968 graduate of West Bloomfield High School. He briefly attended Oakland Community College until starting his career in Management.

He met the love of his life Lucille (Lucy) Meerschaert through her brother Augie and they were married on August 19, 1972. They had four children, Margaret, Patrick Jr, William, and Austin.

His career in Management began at a Big Boy restaurant, which he eventually owned part of for 20 years, after leaving the food service industry he worked in a Drug store (CVS) management, and was a certified Pharmacy Technician.

In his time in Michigan, he enjoyed spending time with his family, attending many dances, scout meetings, and school events for the children. He also spent many years on the Wetlands Review Board for West Bloomfield Township and ran for township trustee. Later in life in Maryland, he enjoyed being a part of the Boy Scouts with his sons, and grandsons. He was very proud of the 5 Eagle Scouts in the family. He loved going camping and planning big trips (High Adventure to Northern Tier) for the Scout troop. Many people would say "He was very kind and loved his family."

In his retirement, he devoted his time to caring for his wife and taking day trips to see the beauty of Northern Michigan. He spent many hours on ancestry.com researching and documenting his family history. His newfound hobby was watching the birds coming to the feeder outside the living room window and working on identifying them.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years Lucille M. McGinty (Meerschaert), children Margaret (Dariusz) Szajner, Patrick McGinty Jr. (Jessica), William McGinty, and Captain Austin P. McGinty, eight grandchildren; Patrick III (Kayla), Aaron (Elizabeth), Dominic, Colin, Mackinze, Keegan, Danek and Alexander, three great-grandchildren; Ellie, Braxton and Caiden, his sister Donna (Jim) Johncox, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepparent, one brother John McGinty and one sister Kathy (Ernie) Blackmer. He loved his papillons, Flash, Princess, Sandy and Sabrina who will be keeping him company in heaven. His wife Lucy would like to thank her daughter Margaret for all she has done to help care for her father and herself over the last few months.
