TRAVERSE CITY —
Paul Theodore Chartier, 53, of Traverse City, passed away Feb. 15, 2011, at Munson Medical Center, with his loving family at his side. He passed away shortly after receiving the Anointing of the Sick by Fr. Ruben Munzo and went directly to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior.
Paul was born on Nov. 9, 1957, in Detroit, to Donald B. and Maxine (Cornell) Chartier.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force in Germany.
Paul was not hesitant to help people, especially the homeless in his later years. He loved working with wood and made many wonderful items. He was also a mason and roofer.
He leaves the mother of his children, Karen, of Highland; son, Mackenzie, of Traverse City; daughters, Marisa, Mariah, Megan and Miranda; and grandson, Peyton, all of Highland. He also leaves his sisters, Donna (Eric) Johnson, Jayne (Dick) Frederick, Molly (Tim) Murphy and Alice Hanbury, all of Traverse City; brother, Bart (Rebecca), Bruce (Tracy), of Traverse City, and Brian, of Portage; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Father James Hayden will lead the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., and visitation will begin at 10 a.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Rebecca Hoffman, who cared for him in his painful struggle with cancer, and Hospice of Michigan, where he was provided outstanding care during his last days.
