Paul E. Fleischman

Paul Edward Fleischman, 75, of Beaver Island and formerly of Marquette and Traverse City, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026.

Paul was born on July 7, 1951, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the late Herbert George and Cecelia Katherine (Teskey) Fleischman. He grew up in Ann Arbor and graduated from St. Thomas High School. As a young boy, Paul spent many summer vacations on Beaver Island with his family.  He continued his education at Kirtland Community College and Washtenaw Community College, where he earned two Associate Degrees in Architectural Drafting and Civil Engineering. Paul worked as a draftsman and designer for most of his life, combining his love of art and science with a sharp and curious mind.

Later in life, Paul met and fell in love with Susan, who was born and raised in Munising, Michigan. The two met through his sister and went on to share a wonderful life together until her death in 2017. Susan was a loving and supportive wife, always encouraging Paul’s passions—especially his love of fishing. Fly fishing for trout brought Paul great joy, and there were few places in Northern Michigan or the Upper Peninsula where he had not cast a line. He was a skilled fisherman who truly cherished time on the water.

In recent years, Paul lived on Beaver Island, where he enjoyed the peace and serenity of island life. Though fly fishing opportunities were limited, he deeply appreciated the quiet beauty and slower pace it offered.

Paul loved his family dearly, especially his sisters. He is survived by his sisters, Susan Muldoon(the late Oliver), Jane (Steve) Perdue, Nancy (Tom) Ryan, Lisa (Dave) Jachimski, and Laura (Carl) Welke, along with 25 nieces and nephews and more than 100 great and great great nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Nephews Michael and Andrew and Paul’s parents, Herbert and Cecelia predeceased him. Paul will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Christ the King Catholic Church at 11 AM with a visitation starting at 9:30am at the church. Paul will be laid to rest in Munising, Michigan, beside his beloved wife, Susan at a later time. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Church.
