Obituary

GRAWN — Paul Eldon Johnson, 83, of Grawn, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Munson Medical Center. Paul was born on Feb. 14, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Edwin and Opal (Knaggs) Johnson. At the young age of five, Paul moved to the Traverse City area and has been a resident ever since. Paul honorably served his country in World War II with the United States Army and later enlisted in the Marine Corps. On July 24, 1948, Paul married the former Ruth M. Bush in Traverse City. Together they shared 62 wonderful years. Paul worked for Cherry Growers Inc., and was a bus driver for 28 years for North Star Lines. In his spare time he enjoyed bass fishing and spending time with his family. Paul was also a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Helmer K. Johnson and Robert Johnson. In addition to Paul's wife, he is survived by his six children and their families, Marguerite (Robert) Glazier, Eugene (Jill) Johnson, Mary Anne (Bruce) Stocking, Steven (Char) Johnson, Therese (Dan) Strang and Michael (Deana) Johnson; 21grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Phyllis (Gordon) Babcock. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m., with a rosary recitation at 4 p.m., led by Deacon Rene Hoenschied. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father Don Geyman will lead the service.
