Traverse City-Paul A. Roberts, 87, of Traverse City, formerly of Chicago, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Tuesday evening, August 6, 2013, at Munson Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Born March 20, 1926, in Huntington, IN, he was the son of the late Paul Alkire Roberts, Sr. and LaVerne (Ogden) Roberts, On May 26, 1957, in Plymouth, IN, he married his life long friend, the former Sue C. Staley, who proceeded him in death on October 3, 2012. They had known each other since the age of three.
Paul had quite a sense of humor, perhaps something he acquired from two of his Danville High School in Danville, IL. classmates , Dick VanDyke and Gene Hackman. .
He was a proud Veteran, who served with the United States Navy, during WWII.
Prior to his retirement, Paul worked as a traveling salesman for Ken Oleson and retired from the Dietary Department at the Traverse City State Hospital. He also found joy at working till the age of 86 at the Chums Corners McDonalds, where he was affectionately referred to as the "Egg Master" or "Pauly".
He was a very active man and was very involved in Indian Guides, The Emmaus Community, Promise Keepers, Old Town Playhouse (Traverse City Civic Players), Cherry County Playhouse, Barber shoppers and the Kiwanis Club. He loved to experience the world and was able to do this through his dedication to Amway.
Paul was a long time member of Traverse Bay United Methodist Church where he enjoyed participating in various capacities, especially singing in the choir and volunteering his time using his cooking expertise at the monthly dinners.
He is survived by his loving family; daughter, Sarah Schaub, of Kewadin; son, Mark (Sandi) Roberts, of Ocala, FL ; five grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan, Brittany, Brandon and Ashley; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty and Marjorie, and many other loving family members and dear friends.
Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday August 26 , 2013, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jane Lippert will officiate.
Military Honors will follow, under the auspices of the VFW, Cherryland Post, 2780.
