Paul R. Spellicy

Paul Richard Spellicy, 69, of Traverse City died October 11, 2012.

He was born on May 2, 1943 to J. Paul and Natalie (Dryden) Spellicy in Detroit. Paul attended U of D High School and graduated from U of M Dearborn in 1966. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity.

On June 25, 1966, Paul married Glenna Faye Hollon at Holy Redeemer Church in Detroit. In 1972, the family moved to Traverse City, as Paul's employer, Trans-Michigan Airlines, transferred him there.

He then was employed by Dingeman Advertising and worked his way up to Executive Vice President. After Glenna's death in 1979, he left Dingeman to go back to school and get his broker's license which he got in the early 1980's. He worked for the Ohio company, Prudential Securities and Raymond James before starting his own company in September of 2000 where he worked until his retirement in August, 2005.

He is survived by three children, Michael John (Carleen), Michelle Lynn and Scott Allen, his brother Robert Spellicy, sister Patricia Cherniskin, six grandchildren, Jason Ferris, Heather Beers, Jason Spellicy, Jon and Ethan VanHoose and Kelder Colby and several great grandchildren along with too many wonderful friends and family members to list. A special thanks to Laura Johnson for all her help and care over the last 12 years. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna and both parents.

Paul was an avid golfer who golfed at every opportunity and frequently beat his best friend Rich. He traveled and golfed at some of the world's most famous courses. He loved the water and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren to swim and fish.


Visitation for Paul will take place from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. For the funeral service, which will be held Monday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home with Deacon Rene Hoenscheid officiating, casual wear would be most appropriate and would have pleased Paul. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
