Paulette Stocky Collins

Paulette Stocky Collins passed away in Empire, Michigan on May 19, 2026 at the age of 80 years old. After successfully and courageously living for over 34 years with Parkinson’s Disease, her passing was peaceful, with the support of loved ones, friends, and Hospice. Born in Wyandotte, Michigan to doting parents Paul and Marilyn, and growing up alongside sister Nanette, Paulette was a studious, artistic, athletic, and fun-loving child.

At the end of high school at Kingswood-Cranbrook, and before attending Syracuse University for college, Paulette met the love of her life John Patrick Collins IV on a blind date. Married in Annapolis, Maryland in 1969, the two embarked on a lifelong adventure together that saw them travel the world and live around the country as a Navy family. Paulette and John lovingly welcomed three children in the following years: Nancy, John, and Carolyn.

With a passion and natural talent for teaching, Paulette was always eager to share her knowledge and love of learning with others. She valued the arts, music, science, languages, and any opportunity to learn more about the world. Although a highly regarded elementary school teacher, she often said that her most important job and greatest achievement in life was raising her kids and helping her grandchildren grow to be citizens of the world.

Among her many hobbies and interests, Paulette had a special knack for collecting and restoring antiques, using her keen sense of style to create a warm and welcoming home. Paulette was a kind, empathetic, and social person, enjoying connecting with others to learn about different people’s lives and experiences. She strongly believed in the golden rule and the importance of having a sense of other. Her caring disposition extended to nature as well. Paulette adored all creatures great and small, especially her many cherished pets, and took pleasure in gardening and caring for the environment.

Paulette appreciated the little things in life like watching the sun set over Lake Michigan and enjoying a scoop of butter pecan ice cream with her loved ones. Paulette will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her curiosity for life and the world, and above all, the love she shared with her family.

Affectionately nicknamed “Beanie” by her grandchildren, Paulette’s life demonstrated the power of love, caring, and thoughtfulness. She had the rare and special quality of subtly and positively influencing others. Her lasting impact will be carried forward by all who had the privilege of knowing such a remarkable person.

Paulette is survived by her loving husband John; children Nancy (Mark), John (Laura), and Carolyn (Jeff); grandchildren Claire (Haden), Jack, Violet, Evelyn, Ben, Nora, and Marcel; and great-grandson Bruce.

Private family services are to be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
