Pauline Ruth Schuler

March 22, 1919 — December 24, 2014

Pauline Ruth Schuler, 95, of Williamsburg, Michigan, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, December 24, 2014, surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren. She celebrated Jesus' birthday WITH HIM!

Pauline was born March 22, 1919, in Cass County, Iowa, to Calvin and Alma (Wohlenhaus) Lindeman. After graduating from Atlantic High School, Pauline married her childhood sweetheart Travis L. Martens in 1939 and gave birth to daughter Mary Ruth in 1943. Together they farmed for 53 years. In the early 1950's, they moved their farm house along the country roads to the small town of Lyman where they together built and operated a 6-unit motel (The Pink Motel), Lyman Implement and Repair business, and a coin-operated car wash, while continuing to farm. Pauline played the piano and organ at the Lyman Gospel Hall and Atlantic Gospel Chapel for over 60 years. They also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing in Canada, living in Lyman until Travis' death in 1992.

In 1994, Pauline married former high school classmate and neighbor Murry Schuler who had also recently lost his loving spouse after more than 50 years of marriage. Together they traveled to England and Paris, spending winters in Arizona.

In 2005, Pauline was brought to Acme, Michigan, to be near and in the care of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Paul Ryan. She quickly made many friends at her home in Hope Village and enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and creating greeting cards on the computer incorporating her own poetry. She especially loved her Bible Studies, the Detroit Tigers, and the Traverse City Beach Bums. She will be remembered for her quick wit and great sense of humor and the extreme love of family and her Lord Jesus.

Preceding Pauline in death were her parents; her husband's Travis Martens and Murry Schuler; son-in-law Paul J. Ryan; sisters Lois Wagner and Betty Riley.

Survivors include: Daughter Mary Ruth Ryan of Acme; grandchildren Paul (Robin) Ryan of Alabaster, Alabama; Jill (fiancé Aaron Grenchik) Ryan of Traverse City and John (Shannin) Ryan of Beulah; great grandchildren Meghan, Caitlin, Aidan, Gwyneth, Will, and Luke of Alabaster, Alabama, and David Ryan of Beulah. Three step-daughters and their families, Sheryl Walgenbach, Caryl Miller, and Doreen Ross. Sisters Martha Lehmkuhl and Grace (Verlain) Rathkamp; brothers Lloyd "Bud" and C.G. (Helen) Lindeman; many nieces and nephews, and nearly all the residents of Southwest Iowa.
