TRAVERSE CITY — Peggy Sue (Bills) Bernard, 53, of Traverse City, formerly of Kalkaska and Alpena, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at her home.Peggy was born Dec. 27, 1957, to Raymond and Shirley (Gibbs) Bills, in Alpena.Peggy grew up in and graduated from High School and Beauty College in Alpena, before making the move west to Kalkaska and eventually Traverse City. Peggy watched her family grow with the addition of a daughter and a son.Peggy's personable nature and willingness to help drew people to her. She was a wonderful beautician and was generous with her time and talents. She provided many of her creative works, knitting and as a seamstress, to help those in need.Peggy often spent time entertaining as a hostess, displaying her many wonderfully prepared meals and holiday treats. She was a loving mother, a proud and caring grandmother, and enjoyed every opportunity to build on tradition with her family.Peggy attended East Bay Calvary Church and will be deeply missed by many.Peggy is survived by her two loving children: her daughter, Jennifer (Nathan) Bower, of Traverse City, and her son, Jerry (Andrea) Bernard, of Coldwater; her beautiful granddaughter, Maylin Jo Bower; her mother, Shirley Bills; sisters, Rita Fay, Cathy Welker, Andrea Tulgetske; and brother, Dan Bills.Peggy was preceded in death by father, Raymond Bills; sisters, Julie (Bills) Smith and Angela Bills; grandmother, Evelyn Gibbs; and grandfather, Gordon Gibbs.Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at East Bay Calvary Church, with Pastor Sheldon Reist officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1p.m. until the time of service.
