Traverse City - Margaret "Peggy" Helen (Turner) Player, 97, of Traverse City and formerly of Redford Township and Detroit passed away at her home on October 14, 2016.
Peggy was born on February 11, 1919 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Frederick Emerson and Corinne (Brown) Turner.
On June 21, 1941 Peggy married Jay S. Player in Detroit. Peggy was the Head Cashier for Montgomery Ward for over 25 years. Peggy and Jay retired to Traverse City in 1977. In her spare time she enjoyed membership in the DAR and in the Grand Traverse Genealogical Society. Her passion for genealogy stemmed from a high school class where she learned the importance of family history. Peggy also enjoyed knitting, solving crossword puzzles and in more recent years, playing bingo. Jay and Peggy were avid Detroit Tiger Fans. They travelled to Lakeland, FL several times to watch them at spring training. She will be greatly missed for her kind and gentle heart.
Peggy is survived by her sister Loraine Wallace, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Jay, brother Alan F. Turner, and sister Virginia Heimer.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 10 am until 12 Noon at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Peggy will be laid to rest at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens following the visitation.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Grand Traverse Genealogical Society.
