Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Peter Zenz. Peter, age 62, passed away on Jan. 6, 2023, at Munson Medical Center, surrounded by his children. Peter was born on Dec. 28, 1960, in Monroe, MI to the late John T. Zenz and the late Helen G. Zenz.

Peter graduated from Monroe Central Catholic High in 1979. It was during high school that he met Ann. Peter and Ann were high school sweethearts. Their undeniable love for one another was the compass of their life. They married on Dec. 4, 1980. It is by the providence of God that they recently celebrated 42 years of marriage.

Soon after Peter and Ann married, Peter enlisted in the United States Army in 1981. He was stationed in Louisiana and eventually overseas in Germany. While in Germany, Peter and Ann welcomed their first child, Joel. After four years of service, Peter was honorably discharged as a Sargent E5.

Peter was a hard worker. His sole priority was wanting to provide for his family. Peter was a true "people person". He was always kind, humble, patient, and attentive. It was because of these qualities that Peter succeeded during his years of service in route Sales for Carbon Golden Malted Waffles.

Peter experienced many trials during his life. In 2005, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. His journey with this disease was challenging but Peter's spirit never dwindled. He remained a man of great faith. His mission in life was to help everyone around him. About a decade after Peter's diagnosis, his wife, Ann, experienced a life-changing diagnosis as well. Not only did Peter take care of his wife, Ann, but he continued to provide care for her even as his disease progressed.
To know Peter is to love Peter. His bubbly personality was infectious. He truly displayed that no matter what hardships you might be facing, you can conquer all.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Ann; three children, Joel Zenz of Traverse City, Kelly (Dillon O'Loughlin) Zenz of Traverse City, and Angela (Rudy) Rodriguez of Northport; three grandchildren, Jacob, Sophia, and Leo; brother, Monsignor John Patrick Zenz; sisters, Pam (George) Adamschick and Priscilla Zenz. Additionally, Peter is survived by many nieces and nephews. Peter was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Helen Zenz, in-laws, James and Eileen Stereff, his dear sister, Paula Deardurff; and granddaughters, Aubriana and Skylar Rodriguez.

A funeral service honoring Peter's life will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at St. Francis Catholic Church, with a luncheon to follow. 1025 S Union St, Traverse City, MI 49684.
